Shonda Rhimes 1: My year of saying yes to everything (transcript)
Summary
The speaker is a very famous writer Shonda Rhimes. Her latest popular T.V program is "How To Get Away With Murder" which Viola Davis acts in.
Thus, she was working hard and she was busy every day. She always said no to do other things. She loved her job. She wanted to work more and thought that most women thought that they didn't want to lose their career. She couldn't help but work, she was hard at work and she was deep in it. There is no other feeling. It's called being a workaholic. That's called the hum.
However, her thoughts called the hum stopped. Its engine died. She then tried to say yes to all things as possible. She didn't like to play with her children, but she said to children whose question is, "momma want play?" Playing was the opposite of work.
Of course, playing was completely different to work, but somehow, somehow, something brought her a good feeling from nowhere. It's joy and love like working. That would be the hum but it was different type that is more powerful. When she was relaxed with her children, it came to her. It is the fuel that feeds the hum. She finally noticed.
Working doesn't work without play. She understood that saying yes to playing with her children likely saved her career.
And then, uninterrupted is the key. It only needs just 15 minutes where time is no cell phone, no laundry, no anything.
Your kids are your happy place, they're your world. You can feel better and work well.
You can change yourself to only say yes also. "Yes" can change your life.
