Ludwick Marishane : A bath without water

TED 2012
Ludwick Marishane : A bath without water (transcript)
Summary
When the speaker was 17 years old,  words which his friends uttered quite unintentionally uttered became one idea.
“Why doesn’t somebody invent something that you can just put on your skin and then you don’t have to bathe?”
He felt that the idea was really useful because he didn't like to bathe. From a little research, he found out that it can save water, and it can be used to avoid Trachoma.
It took four years though the idea was the world's first bath-substituting lotion called DryBath, and it is going to be sold at the retail markets in the world.
He wrote a business plan and his patent, calculated a formula, made a sample in the limited situation and could finally commercialize it.
He learned from poor communities that they buy products on demand, even though it's more expensive.
It turned out also that skipping a bath leads to saving time because children don't need to carry water in rural areas.
There is a small idea next to you in your usual life, it's waiting to be found by you and to be transformed into a bigger form. You can do it also.

Words in this story
Sachet / a small closed container made of paper or plastic, containing a small amount of something, usually enough for only one occasion. It's subdivided into one species. However, in Japan, one sachet is not sold. It's because it will cost more if you buy them separately. The company wants to sell things in bulk in a high price so the customers can feel the lower cost.
substitute / exchange, replace, replacement.
subdivide /divide (something that has already been divided or that is a separate unit).
uttered / make (a sound) with one's voice.
