Aimee Mullins 2: The opportunity of adversity (transcript)
Summary
The speaker was born without fibulas in both legs and amputated at age one. However, she joined the Olympic games and she is now a model.
People say that she is one person who has overcome severe adversity which she is a double amputee.
However, she asks us what is adversity.
There are adversity and challenge in all people’s lives . You don't let your children avoid to meet it but you should prepare it for them to meet it. It's how they are going to meet it. If only one person shows them the epiphany of their own power, they can bring out their potential themselves.
She grew up while being taught that adversity is usual, just she could open herself up to adversity, embrace it and grapple with it. Stop thinking that disability is adversity and you are normal. The human ability is great to be able to adapt. It's can change you on the opportunity of adversity and each child can bring his/her potential.
