Julie Lythcott-Haims : How to raise successful kids — without over-parenting

Julie Lythcott-Haims TED Talks Live
How to raise successful kids-without over-parenting
Summary
The story was really interesting and funny. It's truly because audiences laughed many times in the talk. Everyone would agree on two important things that the speaker tells us when parents raise successful kids. In fact, the two things are love and chores surprisingly.

The speaker says that happiness in life comes from love thus love is very important. It’s found by Harvard Study and it’s not love of work but love of humans. Loving spouse, partner, friends, and family are important and people have to learn how to love for those when they are kids. It comes from unconditional love of parents and kids can learn to love themselves and others.

And then chores are unpleasant works, but by do chores together, it creates ways of thought on how your children can be useful to others. It’s the impulse and instinct to pitch in and to do something without checklists. However, parents absolve children of helping out around housework and make them only study.

The speaker’s conclusion is that the parents’ role is to support children in becoming their glorious selves. Parents mustn’t think that children become what parents want children to be.

In the article, bonsai trees that audiences laughed mean Japanese small trees by using special techniques and it’s unique like art but it ‘s really difficult to raise!
Over-parenting seems to be overprotective that is like making children do only parents’ checklists.
Lastly, don’t say that l feel the story funny because I don’t have children, please.
