TED 2012
E.O. Wilson: Advice to a young scientist (script)
Summary
The speaker is a great biologist who is E.O.Wilson. He tells us his principles because he doesn't want young scientists to give up continuing studying and learning what they do nowadays. It'll be worth enough for all people who are without scientists to listen to it.  1) Find the subject that interests you, and focus on it. 2) There is the excellent achievement even in your level. 3) Observe from a distance. Don't join the fray. Study what you love without looking aside. 4) Accept every problem which is the important opportunity.  The scientific discoveries will come from first through early discoveries. Don't forget it. Search broadly and enter the realm which is unknown phenomena.
His strong advice is that find your own way to discover learning and you should teach also. For young scientists, you are really needed in our world.

We often talk about viruses because it causes many diseases for us. Viruses can infect all types of creatures. It lives inside our cells. Bacteria and virus are the same microorganisms though bacteria don't hurt us. Our lives depend upon bacteria. In our mouth and throat, it's symbiotically necessary. It helps to be healthy, creates fertile soil and cleans the ocean.
However, we don't mostly know about it. In fact, bacteria are being a frontier of biology. It is so strange like it exists on another planet that it can be thought that we can find aliens among bacteria. And then, we unfortunately destroy these ecosystems and species. Our experience exposes the bacteria at the perils repeatedly. It obviously runs on the road of disappearing it forever.
Nowadays, scientists found the new genomic technology to aid them. The speaker tells us building an encyclopedia on the internet which everyone can join. He and we strongly think that it leads to searching for life, to understanding it and to being able to preserve it. We should know about our beautiful earth to save more.

TED prize 2006 Jehane Noujaim: My wish: A global day of film (script)
Summary
In the world, there is still a lot of fight and we cannot live without war yet. The damage is horrifying and miserable that you never believe. We never understand what the people who suffer damage is thinking, even if we saw, for example, the bombs being loaded on the planes and the military going out to war.  We don't understand people's anger or hate towards us until we see many times the people in hospitals and the victims of the wars.
Only going there or its reality film makes us realize them. The ways would be just we travel there or we watch films. A film might not change the world, but it can start people thinking about how to change the world.
The films can tell us the power people have and connect people together who have different cultures beyond the borders.
And then, make a day when people in the world together watch the same film at the same time around the world. People feel like they're having a communal experience beyond the borders. It can touch people's hearts, bond people together and change people. They can be through the film as one. This is a global day of the film.

misery /noun/ suffering, sadness
miserable /adj/  sad, sorrowful, dejected

President Obama’s Farewell Address "Yes we did."

The New York Times

President Obama’s Farewell Address: Full Video and Text (article)

This is the speech of Barack Obama's farewell. President's term of office which is eight years is going to end on January 20th, 2017.
I thought about the term of Japanese prime ministers, their politics and Japanese country while reading the article. In Japan, almost all the prime ministers resign or someone force them to resign the post before the expiration of the term of office. They only want to sit down the chair of the prime minister. They work to just get its chair but they don't think about Japanese country. It's a reason not only that we Japanese people can vote only a party but we can't choose the leader of its party. The leader becomes our Japanese prime minister. Almost all people seek their own benefits from someone who will be a prime minister. And then, other people don't go to the election.
So what I thought about one more thing while reading it, is about Japan and The United States are the same democratic countries. In the speech, Obama says that that's what he wants to focus on that night is the state of their democracy. It requires a basic sense of solidarity.  People are all in together when they rise or fall as one. It includes fear, depressing, corruption and blame. Politics is a battle of ideas.
However, people have to embrace the joyous task that they have been given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours. This is the country which is the United States of America. Not other people do but you do. The politics, the democracy and country need you.
I think that like Japan, it's not democracy that people think that someone would do but it'd be for getting benefits or sticking one position, and give up quickly.
Obama says that it has been the honor of his life, to serve his country's people. He won't stop it.
In the democratic country, people believe as a result that future is in good hands and they progress with their strong creed that they are Americans.
This is a great thing that we create our country ourselves. Yes we can.

Words in this article
expiration /ekspəˈrāSHən/ termination
solidarity /  unanimity, unity, like-mindedness, agreement
corrupt /  dishonest, rot, decay, go bad
creed / faith, belief
altruistic /  showing a disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others; unselfish. selfless.

TEDGlobal 2014
Laura Boushnak: For these women, reading is a daring act
Summary
I  am a woman holding a regular job, and I appreciate that I have time to learn English with safety and fun.
In the world, still there are a lot of women and girls who are not allowed to learn reading and writing. Their parents, society and even their religious beliefs are obstacles. They know that receiving education is their only way to control their lives.
The speaker is a photographer who experienced that. She takes photos and shows them to the world to encourage them.
What they learn is that they can find a job, rent a place to live in and have a kid with safety. They also start to understand that, and they share a message to us and other people who have the same situation.  "Questions your convictions. You can be a person who wants to be. Don't accept being the enslavement. For your mother birthed you free".
We have to create our world where all men and women can enjoy reading.
Words in this story
enslavement / the action of making someone a slave; subjugation. service, employing, using.
